Since the receipt of your letter No. 2174/1906 dated 24th January stating that, with reference to our claim for further compensation in respect of our Hong Kong Marine Lot No. 184, the Earl of Elgin saw no reason to depart from the decision of his predecessor, I have been in correspondence with the Secretary of State for the Home Department, by whose directions I have been informed that it is open to me to forward a further Petition to His Majesty the King through the Colonial Office, of which course I now avail myself by sending three copies of "A Further Petition" which I trust will lead to a settlement of the case by His Majesty doing fullest justice to a Crown Lessee in respect of private rights as promised by Governor des Voeux on behalf of the Government.
I have the honour to be
Sir,
Your Obedient Servant,
